Over 11 years of experience as Head of Voice at the University of Northampton

I bring a wealth of knowledge and an innovative approach to my work.

I am passionate about the transformative power of the voice, particularly in the fields of acting and personal well-being.

I am deeply committed to creating safe, inclusive environments where students can explore and harness their voices, fostering a sense of belonging that I believe is crucial for social change.

Academic Specialism in Voice and Research Practice

My teaching philosophy is grounded in my belief that voice training should empower individuals to create, perform, and communicate authentically. My approach is rooted in social justice, ensuring that every voice is heard, valued, and respected. This belief drives me to develop vocal programs that are inclusive, supportive, and challenge students to excel both personally and professionally.

In recognition of my work, I was honoured to receive a National Teaching Fellowship in 2024 for my leadership in voice training and inclusion. Alongside this I also received Lecturer of the Year (2021) and Education Changemaker of the Year (2022) awards. These accolades reflect my ongoing commitment to integrating inclusivity and equity into all aspects of my teaching.

At the University of Northampton, I’ve led the design and implementation of pioneering programs that focus on cultural intelligence and empathy. These workshops tackle key issues such as privilege, unconscious bias, and intersectionality—equipping both staff and students with the tools to foster truly inclusive and creative learning environments.

My PhD research, The Development and Implementation of a Hybrid Voice Practice for Actors in Various Performance Environments: A Creative Approach, has led to innovative ways of using the voice not only for character creation but also for promoting well-being.

My hybrid voice practice merges technical vocal exercises with imaginative approaches, offering actors new methods for exploring character through voice as a psychological behaviour. These methods also include de-rolling techniques that provide essential safeguarding strategies for performers, particularly when engaging with sensitive or traumatic content.
